2010 Chattanooga Rat Race

The Chattanooga River Rat Race is a 4.5 mile or 1.2 mile open water swim event in the Tennessee river on Saturday, June 12th 2010 at 7:30am. Participants swim with the downstream current and the water temperature is expected to be about 74 degrees.

Location: Champions Tennis club and dock @ Rivermont Park, located off Hixson Pike in Chattanooga, TN. The race ends in Coolidge Park at the Walnut Street bridge. Participants will meet at Coolidge Park and be transported to start. Shuttle bus to the start leaves at 7:00am


Eligibility: USMS/USA Swim registration is required of all participants. A copy of the swimmer's current registration must be submitted with the official entry form. A one day USA Swimming registration is available for those not registered USMS.

Fees: $45 registration fee. Non-refundable fee includes USA Open Water Swimming one day registration. Proceeds from this event will be used to provide scholarships for the inner city lifeguard programs.

Deadline: Mail entries must be received by June 10. Entries may be accepted at check-in on Friday, June 12th. No race day registrations.

Safety: Swimmers must wear the fluorescent swim cap provided. There will be a three hour time limit strictly enforced with a mass start. Any swimmer needing to withdraw from the race must wave his/her cap to signal nearby watercraft.

Rules: USMS and USA Swimming rules will apply. Swimmers choosing to wear a wetsuit will not be eligible for awards or official placing in the results due to the competitive advantage wet suits provide.

Awards: Awards will be awarded to the first place winners and overall male and female winners of each age group and gender. Age groups will be 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+.
T-shirts will be given to each entrant.

2009 Chattanooga Rat Race

The 2009 Chattanooga Rat Race is on June 13th an offers a 4.5 mile open water swim in the Tennessee River (downstream current). USMS Registration is required of all participants. A copy of the swimmer’s current registration must be submitted with the official entry form.

Immediately following the race will be an award lunch at Walker Pavilion in Coolidge Park. Awards will be awarded to the first and second place winners of each age group and gender. T-Shirts will be given to each participant.
